WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This small fish with an elongated body has three clearly distinct dorsal fins, a characteristic detail of its group. Its head is slender and its eyes clearly visible. During the breeding season, the male becomes very recognisable with a bright yellow body and black head. The rest of the time, its colouring is more subdued, in brown or reddish tones with dark bands. It moves in little hops near the seabed rather than swimming continuously.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It lives on rocky seabeds, often in shaded areas such as overhangs, cracks or cavity entrances. It is generally found at shallow and medium depths where it can hide easily.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
It feeds on small bottom-dwelling invertebrates, particularly tiny crustaceans caught immediately beside the substrate.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
