WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The Mediterranean green sea ball is a green alga that forms a soft, velvety ball, often compared to a small cushion or a beret.Its colour varies from dark to lighter green, sometimes slightly blackish, and its surface is soft to the touch.It is hollow inside and attached to the substrate by a small, inconspicuous base.
WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
This alga lives attached to rocks, mainly in well-lit areas.It occurs from the surface down to several tens of metres, often in calm but also slightly disturbed water.It is mainly found in the Mediterranean Sea.
WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Like all algae, it produces its own material through photosynthesis.It uses light, carbon dioxide and substances dissolved in the water to develop.
