WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This marine plant forms vast meadows of long, green, ribbon-shaped leaves. It produces oxygen through photosynthesis and plays an essential role in the balance of the marine environment. Beneath the leaves, a dense tangle of roots, stems and sediment forms a structure called a ‘matte’, which can accumulate over several years.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It develops in the Mediterranean on sandy or mixed seabeds, from the surface down to several dozen metres, depending on water clarity. It needs light to persist.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Like all plants, it makes its own material through photosynthesis, using light, carbon dioxide and substances dissolved in the water.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
