WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Numerous elongated tentacles surround the mouth and may show slightly swollen tips. The often brightly coloured column contrasts with them. Diameter is commonly 30 to 50 cm and can reach about one metre.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It occupies solid, often prominent surfaces exposed to light and currents. This position benefits its symbiotic algae and brings food particles within reach. Its range includes the Red Sea and tropical Indo-Pacific.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Stinging cells on the tentacles help immobilise small prey. Nutrition also benefits from photosynthetic products supplied by symbiotic algae. Its resident anemonefish is not treated as prey.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
