WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Anthias is a small, slender fish, very active and easy to recognise by its pink to orange colour. Males are generally larger and more colourful than females. Its body shape is adapted to swimming in open water. Its slightly forked tail and fins allow it to hold its position facing the current continuously.

WHERE DOES IT LIVE?

It lives in large groups above rocky seabeds, drop-offs and coralligenous areas. It occurs in the Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic, generally from around twenty metres to more than a hundred metres deep.

WHAT DOES IT EAT?

Anthias mainly feeds on plankton, which it captures in open water while swimming into the current. Its mobile mouth allows it to suck in small prey quickly, such as microscopic crustaceans.
