WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This goatfish has a black stripe along its sides and two barbels beneath the chin. The stripe crosses the eye; a dark spot lies near the tail, with a yellow area just in front. The barbels are sensitive filaments that explore the bottom; the stripe and tail markings help distinguish it from other goatfishes.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
Sandy bottoms near reefs offer buried animals and nearby shelter. This fish uses different reef sectors; age, resting and feeding can affect its location. One night observation cannot describe every habitat it uses.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
It searches for bottom-dwelling invertebrates, including crustaceans, worms and small molluscs. Barbels contacting the sediment complement visual prey detection. Disturbing sand while feeding can also make food accessible to other fish.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
