WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The Mediterranean sand eel is a small, very elongated fish with a slender, flexible body resembling a worm or snake. Its silvery, shiny colouring makes it inconspicuous in open water. It has a relatively large eye and a slightly projecting lower jaw. Its body, with no visible pelvic fin, is adapted to undulating swimming and rapid burrowing into sand.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
The Mediterranean sand eel lives above sandy seabeds, often in coastal areas. It spends part of its time buried in sand, quickly taking refuge there when danger threatens.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
It feeds mainly on small planktonic organisms, such as microscopic crustaceans and larvae. It catches prey in open water while swimming above the seabed.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
