Mediterranean Sand Eel

Distribution : Mediterranean

Difficult to notice during a dive, the Mediterranean sand eel sometimes forms small shoals above sandy stretches. Its behaviour is fascinating: at the slightest alarm, it buries itself instantly. This inconspicuous sand dweller feeds on plankton and is prey for many coastal predators.
