WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Adults combine longitudinal dark and pale bands with yellow, black-spotted fins. Their backs are deep and lips fleshy. Stripe orientation distinguishes them from diagonal-banded sweetlips, whose adult markings are oblique.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
This sweetlips uses lagoons, coastal reefs and outer reefs with nearby sandy areas. It occurs in the Maldives. Its range should not be confused with that of similar fishes in the Red Sea or Pacific.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Its carnivorous diet includes bottom invertebrates, notably crustaceans. Feeding mainly takes place at night. A calm group filmed by day is therefore not evidence that the fish are feeding at that moment.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
