WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The brown colour pattern bears pale blue, dark-edged spots extending onto the fins. Variable pale vertical bars mark the posterior body. The tail is rounded. Common length is 40 centimetres, with a documented maximum of 60 centimetres.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
Associated with reefs and lagoons, it uses structural refuges. The documented range covers 0–40 metres, with shallow habitats frequently occupied. The Red Sea is one part of its extensive Indo-Pacific distribution, rather than its sole area of occurrence.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Fish dominate the diet, while crustaceans provide supplementary prey. This predator can use reef cover for ambush hunting. Dietary evidence establishes consumption; merely filming organisms together does not demonstrate a predator–prey relationship.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
