WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?

A large eye, deep belly and long anal fin create a distinctive shape. Colours can be coppery or silver. Length varies by species, generally from roughly ten to a few tens of centimetres.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE?

Many species shelter in reef crevices and caves during daylight, leaving at night. This group guide does not assign one depth range to the entire genus.

WHAT DO THEY EAT?

They capture small planktonic animals. Documented night excursions connect daytime shelters with feeding in the water column.
