WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The fairly deep body has a pronounced back profile and concave forehead. The often dark, forked tail has rounded lobes; pectoral fins can be red. Published common length is around 45 centimetres, with some fish exceeding 50 centimetres.
WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
Found from the Red Sea to the tropical Pacific, this snapper uses different habitats with age. Adults occupy reefs and slopes, while juveniles use more protected places. A published depth limit does not describe the usual depth of every school.
WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Documented food includes fish, shrimps, crabs, lobsters, mantis shrimps, cephalopods and echinoderms. These are prey categories; without more specific evidence, every nearby species cannot be treated as this snapper’s prey.
