WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This brown alga forms flat, ribbon-like blades that regularly divide in two. This dichotomous growth gives it a characteristic forked outline. Its fronds are thin, flexible and slightly translucent. Their colour varies from yellowish brown to darker brown depending on the light and environmental conditions, accentuating their rippling movement in the water.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It attaches to rocky substrates in well-lit coastal areas. It also occurs on mixed seabeds where light remains sufficient. It is found from near the surface down to varying depths depending on water clarity, reaching greater depths in clear water.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
Like all algae, it is autotrophic. It produces its organic matter through photosynthesis, using light, carbon dioxide and substances dissolved in the water.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
