WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The European conger is a fish with a very elongated body resembling a large eel, capable of reaching several metres in length. Its smooth skin, with no visible scales, is covered with protective mucus and is generally dark grey to blackish on the back, lighter on the belly.Its head is massive, with a broad mouth lined with strong teeth adapted to catching tough prey. Its eyes are relatively large, helping it find its way in dim light.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
The European conger mainly lives in rocky areas, crevices, caves or wrecks, where it can hide during the day.It occurs from shallow water to great depths, but adults are often observed in deeper habitats.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
