WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This jellyfish is easily recognised by its fried-egg appearance. Its rounded bell is pale with a raised yellowish centre. It can reach several dozen centimetres in diameter. Beneath the bell, it has no long trailing tentacles, but eight branching oral arms bearing many small appendages ending in swellings often coloured purple or blue. Small fish frequently shelter among these structures.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It lives in open water, most often in well-lit areas near the surface. It drifts with currents but can also move slowly. It is generally found between the surface and a few dozen metres deep.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
It feeds on small plankton particles and tiny marine organisms. It supplements this diet with energy produced by microalgae living in its tissues.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
