WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This jellyfish is recognised by its pinkish to purplish colour and bell scattered with small spots. It has long, very thin tentacles that can stretch widely around it. Its body consists largely of water. It moves by contracting its bell, enabling it to advance even though it remains largely dependent on currents.WHERE DOES IT LIVE?
It lives in open water and occurs both offshore and near the coast. Present in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, it may appear in large numbers depending on environmental conditions.WHAT DOES IT EAT?
It captures small planktonic prey, such as crustaceans or larvae, using its strongly stinging tentacles. These immobilise the prey before it is directed towards the mouth.GO FURTHER WITH AMIGANSEAU
