WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

The Striped red mullet is easily recognised by its two long barbels beneath the chin, which it uses to search the seabed. Its body is elongated, covered in visible scales, and pink to reddish in colour. It differs from the red mullet through longitudinal yellow bands along its flanks. Its colouring may vary slightly depending on its activity or condition.

WHERE DOES IT LIVE?

It occurs on varied seabeds, particularly rocky, sandy or mixed, from shallow water down to about one hundred metres. It often frequents structured areas such as rocks, seagrass beds or the surroundings of wrecks.

WHAT DOES IT EAT?

It feeds by searching sediment using its highly sensitive barbels. It mainly consumes worms, small crustaceans and various invertebrates that it detects and extracts from the seabed.
